Unique Ideas for Cake Toppers

Personalize an Acrylic Heart frame with a pic of you and your Honey

Hello Everyone and hope you had a lovely weekend!

Before you start to look into wedding cakes, you might not be aware of all of the possibilities for wedding cake toppers.
Traditionally, an initial of the Bride and Grooms first names or porcelain figures of a bride and groom sit on the top tier of a wedding cake. But,does it have to be limited to those choices? It’s not your parents’ wedding, it’s yours!  Think outside the box!  There are so many more options available now.
Not that there’s anything wrong with initials or porcelain figures. There’s something to be said for tradition, and those are perfect choices for traditional cakes. But you shouldn’t have to think within the confines of tradition.  The topper is usually the central focus of your cake.  Make it a statement about you as a couple.  But how do you figure out what you want to say, and how do you say it on the top of a cake?  Consider these questions when deciding how you’re going to top it off.

How did you meet?
Was it at work?  In college?  Did you grow up across the street from one another?  There are millions of stories of how couples meet, and no two are the same.  Pick something memorable about how or where you met, and make that into a cake topper.  Maybe something from your college bookstore or your workplace?  Maybe something from your first date, like replicas of movie tickets.

Where are you from?
Are you both from the same area?  Maybe try flags from your country of origin or two black and yellow taxi cabs if you’re from New York City.  Think about what is special about the area you’re from, and use that as a representation of who you are for the top of your cake.

What do you do for a Living?

Are you both doctors?  How about little figures dressed in lab coats?  Are you both accountants?  How about a calculator with a message spelled out on the LED screen?  Are you both teachers?  How about two apples or tiny chalkboards with a message written out in chalk?

What are your Hobbies?

Do you both enjoy Golfing ?Maybe you both enjoy cooking. You could use a set of salt and pepper shakers, one with a tiny veil and the other with a bow tie.  Do you like to travel?  You could use tiny suitcases with destinations written on them, or small model airplanes.

What are your favorite sports teams?

Are you a Soccer Fan? Have two figurines in your favorite teams jersey, I am a Manchester United Fan,how original to use their logo as my topper,or if your  Fiancee is glued to the TV when a Laker's basketball game is on, feature those moments as your toppers, and your guest will love the originality of your cake

What is your personality type?

Are you animal lovers?  A small bride and groom dog or cat would work.  Maybe you’re music lovers?  A small representation of Rolling Stone magazine with your faces photoshopped onto the cover would be great.  Are you into physical fitness?  Maybe a pair of his and hers running shoes.

Whatever your story is, there is sure to be something you can pull from it to use on top of your cake.  Whether it’s traditional or humorous, it should be a statement about who you are as a couple.

Thanks so much and be original!

A Match Made In Heaven. Nonye and Uzoma April 30th 2011 - Part 2

After working with a couple during the planning of their wedding, getting to the final stages seems harder and feels quite like a mother sending her children off to college to face the world.

This is how I felt, but it was a great feeling and I couldn't have been more proud when the big day finally arrived, and my beautiful couple Nonye and Uzoma walked down the aisle to begin their journey as husband and wife,

The ceremony was held at The Church of The Living God in Hyattsville, MD . Guest were beautifully dressed with lots of color from their traditional nigerian attire.Nonye and Uzoma are both nigerian from the Igbo tribe,I just loved the diversity of the crowd.

The reception was  held at Howard University's Blackburn Center where the couple and their guest ate and danced the night away.

I am so honored to have been a part of your wedding and on behalf of Deliteful Events by Ekua we wish you a Happy and Fruitful marriage and don't forget you are now part of the family and we would love to always hear from you,to Love,Health & Happiness

The Art of the Toast - Toast and how to make them

Hi There,

Again the season quickly approaches,Proms,Graduations,Weddings,Birthday's you name it, with great weather comes lots and lots of entertainments.

Today I would like to speak on "The Art of the Toast"

Not every party requires a toast; a perfectly fabulous evening can be had without  everyone toasting each other but when you're hosting a party with a guest of honor,a toast is a suitably reverential thing. As the hostess/host you should always be the first person to toast the guest of honor and you should stand when making a toast. A gentle tap on a wine or water glass is the time-honored way of getting everyone's attention. Be prepared- know what you want to say ahead of time, be brief and stay simple, then wait for the applause. Here are some of my favorites:

May the best of happiness, honor, and fortune keep with you
Here's to a belly full, a heavy purse, and a light heart
May our house always be too small to hold all our friends
Here's to a friend. He knows you well and likes you just the same
Here's to cold nights, warm friends and a good drink to give them
Make the most of life while you may, life is short  and wears away!

If you are participating in a toast, make sure that your glass is at least 2/3 full for the toast. It is considered bad toast etiquette to toast with an empty glass. Don't raise your glass until the speaker asks everyone to stand or raise a glass. Also, it is not necessary to clink glasses with everyone nearby during a toast. While it is appropriate to do so if it is a small party, in a large group it is perfectly fine to simply raise the glass and then drink. It is never a good idea to not participate in a toast. If you are present at the event, you should participate in any toasts given while there.

So these are my recommendations to the "Art of the Toast"

Cheers to you!

2011 Wedding Trends

Hello All,

Hope you had a wonderful St Patrick's Day! Wedding Season will be here officially in the next couple of weeks and I can't wait to see the latest trends take off!

While I am currently working with quite a few couples for my 2011 weddings , there will be LOTS of design work, personalization Bling

So, these are the trends I  foresee, in 2011.

                        Ekua Tandoh, DEbE
                                                    Expert Event/Wedding Consultant

I’ll start with my predictions:

In terms of color –
In 2010 we saw a wide range of color in weddings, ranging from beautiful all white weddings to very rich jewel tones – 2011 will be a HUGE swing from the white weddings; we’re going to see lots of warm tones. You’ll also see infusion of warmer metallic tones of Copper, Bronze and Silver

Food –
The trend has started and will continue – you’ll see more and more menus with local seasonal foods as well as some great twists on traditional comfort foods.
Ethnic fusion in food will be stronger than ever…
And thanks to Prince William…it looks like colored stones in engagement rings will be hot this year as well

In terms of bridal fashion -
We’re going to see sparkle and glitter for 2011!
There will be a lot more crystal detailing in the bodice of gowns as well and in the form of accessories.
Expect more, large crystal jewelry cuffs and hanging crystal earrings this year; they have a very vintage look and feel.  Bling is back, in a big way.
Cool seating will be a continuing trend which takes on a new, interesting twist….
We’ve seen “feast tables”, long tables or square tables mixed with more traditional round guest tables….
We’re seeing the use of really interesting clear tables – these offer a great clean contemporary look and in many cases can be lit from underneath.
While many couples might not be able to afford them for ALL of the guest tables – using them for an escort card display, cake table or to display a signature cocktail may be just the right accent.

I’m  seeing more palettes of nature, ranging from shades of ocean blue to colors of the beach in tans, whites and browns – all the way to sunset colors of purple and orange.
Bold choices in ink colors are being mixed in as well – coral, bright green, turquoise and this year’s hot new color …Honeysuckle!
I’m also getting lots of requests for custom illustrations and monograms which reflect the personality of the couple….

Second Wedding Gowns! Costume changes are going to be more popular than ever – second gowns to party in, or changing accessories on your first gown.
We’re going to see new head pieces, a slight change in hair style or accessories, a change in belts or jewelry ….definately a second look to party in will be in. We’ve even seen sneak peeks at gowns that convert into a shorter ‘party’ dress!

-  So, that’s the 2011 Wedding Trends from the team here at Deliteful Events by Ekua Wedding Consultants… bottom line – it’s all about personalization and your guest experience….

Infusion of your personlity into the wedding – bringing in your fun, flirty side or touches of your family tradition and ethnicity…

Congratulations on your engagement…we’re excited to be part of your planning!

Call us for a free consultation and we look forward to creating a lasting impression on you and your guest.
