Pantone announces the color for 2011- Honeysuckle

So now what? Selecting your colors can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you haven’t been dreaming about your wedding since you were 12. There are a few things to think about when selecting your colors and also how to use those colors once you do come up with a palate:
1. Color trends are not rocket science, they’re cyclical. I hate to break it to you, but we’ve seen every color combination imaginable already. The pink, orange, and green combo of 2010 was also seen in 2003.  I say this because clients often stress about creating a completely unique wedding and that includes their colors.  It’s okay to use navy blue even though you’ve seen it in every magazine; it’s fabulous and popular for a reason!
2. Limit your color choices. Having six different colors for your wedding will make your wedding look overwhelming and it will also make your decisions much more difficult. Try limiting your color choices to three.  You should have a main color and then pair a few accent colors that work well together.  This limited palate will allow you to create a much more tailored design.
3. Incorporate your colors.  Why not use navy ink on your invitations instead of classic black?  There’s no limit to where you can incorporate your colors and there’s no etiquette either. Why not rent a colored linen, bring color to your favor boxes, or write out your place cards with a colored ink?
4. You don’t have 150 people in your wedding party. You picked a bright pink wedding party gown for your 8 attendants.  You don’t have to worry about matching the exact pink of their dress to the pink of the menu and the pink of the table linen.  Unless of course, you have 150 attendants?  I bet you one of your guests will be wearing a pink that doesn’t match exactly either, and that’s totally okay!
5. Use colors that mean something to you. Obviously don’t use colors you don’t like.  Try to find colors that are your personal favorites.  Need inspiration?  Check around your house or apartment and your closets.  See what you tend to gravitate towards and this will help you figure out where to start your wedding color search.
6.  Work with your theme. If you’re creating a preppy nautical wedding, navy and yellow is a great combination.  You might not want to have a beige and champagne color scheme.  That would be better suited for a New Year’s Eve wedding in the city.  Thinking about your wedding theme and style will also help guide you to your colors.
Happy Color Selecting!
